Our Story: How TAG Became the Go-To Tennis Academy Singapore Trusts

TAG International Tennis Academy was founded in Singapore in 2001 with a clear mission: to raise the standard of tennis coaching in Singapore by bringing in coaches who don’t just teach the game — they play it at the highest level. From day one, Coach XT insisted on hiring only tournament-experienced player-coaches from across the region, creating a coaching team unlike any other in Singapore.

Over two decades, TAG has grown from a boutique coaching operation into Singapore’s most established and trusted tennis academy. We have produced multiple SEA Games representatives, Davis Cup and Fed Cup players, and countless competitive juniors and recreational players who have transformed their game under our guidance.

In 2015, Coach XT took a landmark step for Singapore tennis: he opened Winchester Tennis Arena — Singapore’s first fully sheltered indoor tennis courts. The four-court indoor facility at 12A Winchester Road ensures training is never disrupted by Singapore’s unpredictable tropical weather, enabling consistent year-round development for juniors and adults alike.

Meet Our Founder — Coach XT (Tan Xu Teng)

Tan Xu Teng, known universally in Singapore tennis as Coach XT, is the Founder and Managing Partner of TAG International Tennis Academy. An NUS Law graduate (LLB Hons) and one of Singapore’s most accomplished competitive players, Coach XT brings both intellectual rigour and elite on-court experience to everything TAG does.

Coach XT represented Singapore at the ASEAN University Games 2004, winning a Bronze Medal in Men’s Singles. He is a Singapore Men’s Singles and Doubles A Division Champion and currently holds an ITF Men’s 35+ World Ranking of #56, placing him among the top-ranked Singaporean players on the international senior circuit.

In 2017, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) invited Coach XT as a keynote speaker at the prestigious WTA Coaches Conference during the Singapore WTA Finals — a distinction reserved for the world’s foremost tennis minds. He was also appointed Senior Coach of the ActiveSG Tennis Academy, Singapore’s national tennis development programme. His profile and work in Singapore tennis has been featured on Channel 8 News.
